March!

LCol Trevor Cadieu
The Strathconas have a long affiliation with Spruce Meadows dating back to the time when our unit was posted to Calgary initiating that affiliation with the Strathcona mounted troop. It has since expanded significantly with the guard of honour that you saw today

Cpl Izaak Koolman
The recce squadron honour guard came down and did a feu de joie for the Spruce Meadows. The feu de joie is a salute fired with blanks rounds in this case traditionally used to celebrate a victory.

Present!

The event went extremely well today of course the Prime Minister was on hand, the Governor General of Canada, Commander Land Force Western Area, Commander One Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group and without exception including the Associate Minister Fantino as well all of these dignitaries communicated how impressed they were with the calibre of our soldiers and there professionalism here at Spruce Meadows.

LCol Trevor Cadieu
It is important for the Strathconas to maintain a close connection with the population for a number of reasons. First of all, of course, our soldiers and their families live in these communities that we move into so it behoves us to maintain strong ties with those communities. Its also those communities and the citizens of these municipalities throughout western Canada that support the Canadian Army and the Canadian Forces mission whether its on operations abroad or at home so it is extremely important for us that we show our gratitude for that support

MCpl Holly Cowan
The Lord Strathconas Horse Royal Canadians with the hundred man feu de joie and the mounted troop gave the crowds here at Spruce Meadows at sight to see. In Calgary Alberta for Army News I’m Master Corporal Holly Cowan.
